The Feel Good Blogging Challenge – Day 7/7 (yay)

Well I made it! Go me!!

Day 7: A Controversial Post

So I’m supposed to write a controversial post within my industry. I have contemplated what to write about. There seems to be lots of controversy in the photography world but what I am going to discuss is why the most expensive camera does always win. In other words, you don’t have to have the top-of-the-line, latest camera to be a great photographer.

There is so much more to great photos than the equipment.

Now don’t get me wrong, having a great camera and awesome lenses definitely help make better photos and make the process easier. However, I believe having the basic knowledge of how to operate a DSLR outside of automatic mode, knowing the basics of composition, and definitely having a creative eye are the most important aspects of taking great pictures. I also think you must be willing to continue to learn your craft and step out of your comfort zone from time-to-time.

I am asked quite a bit what kind of camera I use. I always give the make and model of my camera, but I also try to explain that, it’s not all about the camera.  I usually add that my camera is what actually captures the shot, but the person behind the camera is the one who has done all the work by making all the adjustments for light, movement, and all other factors that go into the shot, framed the shot, posed the subject, and edited the shot afterwards.

The opposite is also true…I have seen people who can afford to purchase the best and latest equipment but who have no idea how to use said equipment.

I am not afraid to admit that I am not a master photographer. I cannot afford the latest and greatest equipment. I do love great photos and making my clients happy. I truly believe if you have the desire and some working knowledge about how to use a camera along with some creativity, any DSLR can suit your needs.

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it!slider-kiah
