Watercolor is one of my favorite products in my BuJo Monthly Spread

Watercolor is one of my favorite elements in the bullet journal, or really any art related project. I like to use an ombre effect for the monthly title, where the watercolors blend together and give it a consistent look.

To make lettering, my advice is to practice, practice, practice. There are so many tutorials to learn hand lettering. Mine is not that!  LOL Instead, I have my own style; however, I have practice lots of different hand lettering and calligraphy techniques and I think it is worthwhile to practice many different styles to decide which one to use.

The watercolors that I use are Jane Davenport and Daniel Smith, I also have a cheap pallet with a multitude of colors- I use it for practicing my lettering; but I like a higher quality paint for my bullet journal and other projects.

If you are a watercolor beginner, get a simple, cheap pallet to start. Here is a great set with a water brush for less than $10! If you like watercolor, begin collecting better paint and brushes. The pigment is much brighter and you will begin to see and feel the difference.

The Kudesake Fude water brush is key to making my letters. I have other water brushes, but this is the only one I use for my bullet journal. I have linked this one to Amazon.

Finetec metallic watercolors over the initial watercolors gives a special metallic look that I really love. They are very pigmented and shiny when dry and I use them in all of my watercolor projects.

Finetec has changed the packaging from round to rectangle pans since I purchased mine, but any of the gold or silver metallics are amazing quality. I did find this set on Amazon which is similar to what is pictured.  The Moon Gold and Rose Gold in the linked set are my favorites. I have them in another set.

How I Use My BuJo Monthly Spread

Using my monthly spread for an overview of my month is key for me. I am a visual person, so I like to see the month laid out with holidays and important dates, such as events or birthdays.

My general monthly project list is also kept on this page on the right hand side. It helps me stay on task during the month. For more information on

If you are new to bullet journaling, I recommend starting with Ryder Carroll’s original monthly log. However, this visual calendar overview has worked much better for me over the vertical monthly list. Plus, it gives me an opportunity to get creative and use my favorite art products!
